7 Activities Christians can enjoy when they rest from work.

In the Bible, "work" is often described as labor or productive activity that involves physical or mental effort. It is viewed as a meaningful and essential part of human existence, with various passages emphasizing the value of diligence, responsibility, and the use of one's talents and skills for the greater good. The concept of work is mentioned throughout different books in the Bible, such as in Genesis, where it is associated with the act of creation, and in the New Testament, where the Apostle Paul speaks about working diligently and honestly. The Bible encourages people to approach their work with integrity and dedication, recognizing it as a way to honor God and be His hands and feet here on earth.

Biblical “rest” is a period of rejuvenation, refreshment, and cessation from work. Knowing how to rest is important for our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Biblical “rest” is interwoven into the fabric of life. The Sabbath Day, is described in the Old Testament (Exodus 20:8-11), as a time to cease regular work and focus on spiritual reflection and worship; The Sabbatical Year (Exodus 23:10-11) emphasizes the importance of allowing the land to rest and recover its fertility; The Jubilee Year (Leviticus 25:8-13) symbolizes by the liberation of slaves and the return of land to its original owners; and perpetually ordained feasts and festivals, like the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) is a joyful occasion marked by camping outdoors and giving people a break from their usual routines (Leviticus 23:39-43). These examples highlight the importance of establishing a routine for rest, reflection, worship, and rejuvenation.

Here are seven activities Christians can enjoy when they rest from work:
  1. Nature Walks: Explore local parks, nature trails, or nearby natural areas. Connecting with God through nature can be a great way to relax, de-stress, and honor the work and majesty of the Creator’s hands.
  2. DIY Spa Day: Create a spa-like experience at home with your family and friends, give yourself permission to enjoy a DIY facial mask, relaxing bath, or foot soak. Bless God for commanding us to take a break from the stresses of life and reflect on how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. You can use simple ingredients like oatmeal, honey, or essential oils for the pampering session.
  3. Reading: Read your favorite stories from the bible, borrow books from the library or read free e-books online. Reading is an excellent way to escape into different worlds, expand your creativity, gain knowledge, and unwind. Then bless God, knowing that both creativity and wisdom come from God for us to enjoy and benefit.
  4. Prayer and Worship: Practice meditation at home using soaking prayer resources online or sing to the Lord all your favorite worship songs. The joy of the Lord is your strength and these activities promote mindfulness, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.
  5. Picnics: Pack a simple picnic with homemade sandwiches and snacks, and head to a local park or scenic spot for a budget-friendly outdoor meal with friends or family. Take time to bless God for his provision of beauty, food and fellowship.
  6. Stargazing: Look up local astronomy events or just lay out a blanket in your backyard to observe the night sky. Stargazing can be a peaceful and awe-inspiring experience knowing that God created the heavens and all that is in them.
  7. Community Events: Check out free or low-cost events in your community, such as concerts, art exhibitions, or cultural festivals. Many towns and cities offer a range of affordable activities that you can enjoy, meet new people and bless God for all the good things He is doing in people’s lives.
In the New Testament, Jesus invites people to find rest in Him (Matthew 11:28-30). He offers solace to those who are weary and burdened, promising rest for their souls through faith and trust in Him. Resting from work is crucial for our overall well-being and productivity. Physically and mentally, taking time to rest allows our bodies and minds to recover, reducing stress and fatigue. It enhances our ability to focus, be creative, and solve problems effectively.

Resting fosters better relationships with loved ones, provides opportunities for spiritual and emotional renewal, and promotes a healthy work-life balance. By avoiding burnout and cultivating “rest”, we can lead more fulfilling and productive lives, both personally and professionally, while maintaining a sense of happiness and satisfaction in the Lord. Establishing a routine for rest supports our physical health, mental clarity, and emotional resilience, while also fueling our productivity, creativity, and relationships. Embracing moments of rest allows us to bring our best selves to the world around us and bring glory to God in our daily life.

    Understanding Humanity & Christianity

There is logic behind all human behavior. Christianity was never intended to be above rational thought; and what is good & evil, right or wrong, is best understood by what we have individually seen, heard and experienced. So how can we discern the difference? What is the logic behind some of the most atrocious acts of violence or crimes against humanity? What logic or "good" could there be to evils like murder and war? How real is spirituality and what role does it play in human behavior? Follow us here as our Visionary attempts to explain and expand awareness to the powerful and painful complex realities of the human experience and biblical controversies.
